Keeping UPbeat in a down economy

October 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Last night Tom and I went to a Biznik event: http://biznik.com/events/help-your-business-thrive-in-a-down-economy-food-bank-donation

This event was a good reminder that it is very important to keep a positive attitude ESPECIALLY in those times that it might be a little harder.  This event could have also been titled “Donations and Donuts”. I like to think that the donations we brought in for the foodbank were a reminder that there are those that are even less fortunate then us and to not forget to give even when times are rough. The donuts were a sweet treat to helps us remember to be sweet (positive) to our clients even if they are feeling negative. Tshombe http://biznik.com/members/tshombe-brown and Lori http://biznik.com/members/tshombe-brown did a well organized presentation and the handouts will be helpful to refer back to later when this class is a distant memory, the economy is booming and everyone can buy a house. (one can dream…) bliss and tom

A reminder that it isn't as bad as it could be...

A reminder to keep helping others even in hard times.

Tshombe and Lori enlightening the masses...well mass of 10.

If you know Tom you know he is not the pushiest “salesman” type of guy. His massage therapy license creastes a nice balance with his real estate license and therefore makes him pretty mellow.  But that does not mean he doesn’t keep up to date on the latest in negotiation training. To do this  he attends various classes and lectures.Just recently he attended a great event hosted by David Hiller http://biznik.com/members/dave-hiller and Scott Holen http://biznik.com/members/scott-holen with Scott giving an inspiring, interactive lecture on “Navigating the Art of Negotiations”. Some of the take aways from this lecture were:

  • Pre-negotiation (preparing yourself) is one of the most important elements.
  • Master negotiators will be able to find a mutual agreement with speed and efficiency.
  • Know how to end a negotation and follow up

It was a great lecture as it was geared towards using these tools in your daily life and not just business. Tom found this event through a business network he belongs to: Biznik http://biznik.com/ they are a great source of networking and training.

Also in September 2008 Tom completed his Certified Negotiation Expert Designation. What this means simply put is Tom had a 2 day intensive course with Tom Hayman, the President and owner of Negotiation Expertise, LLC, a national negotiation training and coaching company based in Peoria , AZ.. It is important to keep you training up in whatever career you pursue.

Below is the press release for Tom’s new Designation.

Tom Gurney Receives New Certified Negotiation Expert Designation

Real estate negotiation skills a must for all home buyers/sellers, especially in current market

Tom Gurney has been awarded the Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) designation, achieved by real estate professionals who have successfully completed formal training in the art of negotiation.  Agents who receive this certification are in the top 1% of all agents nationally.

With professional negotiation skills, agents will typically obtain better results for their clients. CNE agents have a powerful competitive edge because of their ability to uncover information effectively, get more and give less during sales/purchase negotiations, and retain control over desired outcomes.  Bottom line, CNE agents know how to influence and persuade others more effectively than agents without professional negotiation training..

The certification training is provided by Negotiation Expertise, LLC, a national negotiation training and coaching company based in Peoria , AZ.  Tom Hayman, the President and owner, is a professional negotiator with 35+ year’s experience, including 25 years with Procter and Gamble, a Fortune 50 company.  Hayman asserts “Any Buyer or Seller who hires a CNE agent can feel confident that they have the best trained agent in the business.  They will get superior results and have better resolution of any issues when hiring a CNE agent.”
